The World?s tallest Lego tower has been erected in Seoul, South Korea, built by 4,000 children, using 500,000 bricks and measuring 105ft high.

The toy tower was unveiled on Sunday by Danish Crown Prince Frederik, who laid the final record-breaking brick, as part of a celebration to mark Lego?s 80th birthday.

The structure, which stands in front of Seoul?s Olympic Stadium beats the previous record, set in France last October, by just 30 centimeters,

The tower was built over five days by young contest winners.

The build itself became a tourist attraction, drawing in more than 30,000 curious visitors.

After it was finished and assembled, Prince Frederik ? on a six-day state visit to South Korea ? was hoisted up on a crane to lay the final brick.

The very first Lego tower was built in London in 1988, standing at just under 50 feet.

Since then the record has been toppled more than 30 times.

The popular toy was invented by Danish carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen, who started making wooden toys in his workshop in 1920.

He named his company Lego, from the Danish phrase ?leg godt?, which means ?play well?.

Those wooden toys evolved into the plastic bricks that are now bestsellers the world over.

There?s a special reason for Lego to celebrate its birthday in South Korea. The bricks are hugely popular in the country, having become the first branded toy sold there.

And it?s not the first time a Korean tower has held the world record ? back in 1996 a structure in Seoul claimed the title, measuring a much more modest 68ft tall.

Mark Zuckerberg Targets Facebook Mobile Growth

Controversy over Mark Zuckerberg's hoodie abated Friday as he turned investors' attention to more important matters at a presentation in Palo Alto, Calif.

Chief among them? Improving Facebook's mobile application.

About 200 investors showed up at an IPO presentation to quiz Zuckerberg about generating revenue from mobile users, crucial for long-term fiscal growth.

Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's COO, said overall advertising is gaining steam, with most marketers increasing their spending with Facebook.

The executives, who appeared on stage alongside CFO David Ebersman, highlighted social ads as an important tool for Facebook to tackle mobile challenges.

The ads, incorporating information about Facebook users' friends who "like" certain products, are better-suited to the smaller screens of smartphones.

More than half of Facebook's users currently use it from phones.

As Facebook collects more information about its users, such as location data, Facebook will be able to offer more relevant mobile ads, executives said.

Facebook aims to raise about $10.6 billion via its initial public offering, dwarfing Google's recent IPO and giving it a market value around $96 billion.

The Facebook IPO marks a watershed moment for the new generation of startups that are challenging established players such as Google and Yahoo.

Consumers' online time - and advertising dollars - are very much the future. With 900 million users, Facebook is the world's dominant social network.

Zuckerberg, the 28-year-old CEO, was Time Magazine's Person of the Year in 2010 and was depicted in the fictionalized 2010 movie The Social Network.

While thousands upon thousands of Americans are celebrating graduation weekend with degree in hand, it looks as if the CEO of one particular internet company will be wondering why he lied about his. After weeks of investigating, word on the street has it that freshly appointed (as in January 4th) CEO Scott Thompson will be "stepping down." In other words, he's being canned. The news comes from an All Things D report on the matter, with the official word expected soon. The scandal took hold a few weeks back, with the official Yahoo bio listing a computer science degree that he allegedly didn't even have. The company line is that he's bolting for "personal reasons," but seriously -- what are the chances these "reasons" would've emerged sans scandal? It's bruited that Yahoo's global media head Ross Levinsohn will be filling Scott's shoes for now, but there's no word yet on who the firm's next CEO will be. It's a shame, but it sure feels like a revolving door in Yahoo's corner office.

Thunderbolt's 10-gigabit interface is only just making its way to Windows after spending more than a year as a Mac-only feature, so it's not surprising that a lot of questions surround how well the Apple- and Intel-developed connection works for those of a Microsoft persuasion. A thorough test at AnandTech of one of the first motherboards to support the spec on Windows PCs, an Ivy Bridge-ready board from MSI, has shown some positive signs along with a few flies in the high-speed ointment. The good news? Most general storage devices will work as expected with a minimum of fuss, and you can even get some features of Apple's Thunderbolt Display working if you're willing to accept a lack of pre-supplied software brightness controls and USB support. The bad news comes mostly in the absence of true hot-plugging like on the Mac: if a device isn't plugged into the Thunderbolt port on boot, Windows won't see it. Professionals who need everything to be just perfect will want to wait, then, but bandwidth lovers will still find something to like if they're willing to build Thunderbolt-equipped PCs themselves.
