New User

I am not very good at introductions and I do not like describing myself as I prefer to do so through example. I shall play along though and have decided to use another user's (Discipline) guide to help deaden the pain of doing so. As you can see, my user name is Unconditional. I chose this user name because a dear friend once described my personality as such and while I still may not fully understand her reasoning, I chose to use it in fond remembrance of her.

I found RPG via Google. I looked it up because I was interested in seeing what sort of role playing sites the World Wide Web had to offer nowadays. After browsing through the site I was happy to see that there was not an overabundance of bright colors and that the layout was convenient with most features being easy to access and not overly complicated.

I started role playing as a junior in high school when some friends introduced me to Dungeons & Dragons but I still preferred to write my own adventures rather than play them out with other people. I have never been a very competitive person and the D&D mechanics always made me feel like I was playing against my fellow players rather than with them. I have not played D&D or any other tabletop RPG since my first year of college and since the countless revisions to the games since that time, I am not sure I remember how to play.
The first time I role played in a chat room was during my AOL days and is when I would say I really fell in love with role playing. I met my first serious role playing partner on AOL and from there he and I moved on to Yahoo where we role played for about five years or so. We met a lot of great people on there and most of us kept in touch even after we left Yahoo and we continued coming up with some of the best stories I have had the honor of being a part of. Some of these friends have moved on with their life and I no longer have contact with them while the others have simply moved on from this life and are in a different place.

I want to lie and say that I am not looking for any role play here on RPG but I have to be honest and say that I am holding out hope that I can find something worthwhile but even if I do not find any role play then I still plan on using the forums to display some of my own work as well as check out what other people have to offer. Some people might say that I am too picky when it comes to role playing but I simply do not agree with a lot of what people view as role playing nowadays. As stated earlier, I am not a competitive person and it would seem that role playing has taken on a very competitive edge with all of these silly T1 and T2 rule sets and whatnot. Some people might even say that I take role playing too seriously and I do take it seriously but that is only because I take writing seriously. Otherwise, having fun while role playing is my first priority.

While I do have my preferences, I do not like to limit myself to any particular genre and so I have dabbled in everything from the elves and orcs of fantasy to the dark and gritty nature of a noir crime drama. My scientific knowledge is limited but only from lack of study so I can fit in even in the most heavy of science fiction so long as you do not expect me to come up with my own theory of quantum physics or to understand neuron for neuron exactly how a biological android works. I understand my limits and I try to be as understanding as possible of the limits of others. Yet if I had to pick a favorite genre then I would have to pick fantasy as I was apt to imaginative wandering as a boy and have always enjoyed losing myself in fantastical worlds where imagination most often trumps knowledge.
I should not have to mention this but I am going to anyways for the benefit of those who need to read it. Do not let my favoring of fantasy mislead you in to believing that I prefer the conflicts of elves and goblins over all else as fantasy encompasses much more than what has become clich? in the fantasy genre. Fantasy is limited only by the imagination of the writer and the reader.

I may or may not have given away my age by now but at this point in my life my hobbies have become much more leisurely than during my youth.
When I was younger, I was an avid wrestler and boxer and later delved in to combining those skills with the takedown and immobilizing techniques of judo. As I grew older I found that I was not as fast as I once was and my reflexes were slowing down but my coordination remained as keen as ever and I was physically stronger than I had ever been before. This encouraged me to take up MMA in the late 80's although I practiced more as a way to keep myself fit and, truth be told, from feeling like a broken down old man. All of this may seem to contrast my self-proclaimed non-competitive nature but I very rarely entered any sort of events and those few times that I did make it far enough to compete in any finals, I dropped out. Needless to say, I have no trophies.
Looking back on it all now, I view all of that hard work and training as a way to better myself rather than to become better than those around me. My knees creak when I stand up after sitting for too long so my training has become more like exercise.
Every now and then I am talked in to going bowling but I am so awful at it that I dare not mention my average. I am quite the pool player though and it is the table that calls me in to the bars rather than the booze. I am also an avid chess player but my skill at the game is a matter up for debate. I have few friends left in this world and my family is full of young energy that is, quite frankly, nigh impossible for me to keep up with so I like to sit back and relax as the kids run and play.

Well there you have it. If you have made it this far then I am impressed as most people who listen to me ramble for this long about the good ol' days are related to me and do so only out of respect for an old geezer who is still prone to imaginative wandering whether it be in to a world of fantasy or his own days of yore.

Thanks
